Simms Dazzles in Sens Win
July 7, 2014 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
John Simms' third consecutive outstanding start for the Harrisburg Senators led to a 5-1 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Monday night in front of 3,458 fans at Metro Bank Park.
Simms allowed just four singles and one run in his six innings of work in which he struck out four Bowie hitters. Derek Self allowed a lone base runner in his two innings of solid relief. In the ninth, Tyler Herron allowed three singles while inducing two outs. With the bases loaded, Garabez Rosa lined a drive to right field where Kevin Keyes (2-for-4) charged and made a diving catch to end the ballgame.
Michael Taylor made things happen with his legs in the third inning to put Harrisburg on the board. Taylor stole third base and the throw from Bowie's Michael Ohlman sailed into left field, allowing Taylor to score on the same play. Adrian Sanchez (2-for-3, two runs) added to the Sens' lead in the fourth with a three-run shot, his second of the season, to score Ricky Hague (2-for-4, double) and Brian Jeroloman to push the Senators in front, 4-0. Harrisburg tallied another in the fifth when Jason Martinson (3-for-4, RBI) drove in Matt Skole with a single to center.
Game two of the four-game series between these two teams starts tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Harrisburg will send James Simmons to the hill against Bowie's Jake Pettit. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
