TRAVERSE CITY, MI - An Amarillo Bulls Alumni is getting a serious look at the National Hockey League.

Hampus Gustafsson, who will enter his second year at Merrimack College this fall, has been taking part in the Detroit Red Wings future Camp in Traverse, City Michigan northwest of Detroit. The futures camp began on Friday and will conclude tomorrow.

It features on-ice and off-ice workouts each day, including scrimmages. There are 44 players; 26 forwards, 14 defensemen and four goaltenders. Center Ice Arena has annual hosted the Red Wings events since 1997 including the summer development camp and an NHL Prospects tournament that has been expanded to eight teams held in September before Detroit's main training camp.

In 33 games for Merrimack College, the Ljungby, Sweden native notched four goals and six assists for 10 points. The 6-4, 205 pound forward played a long side his brother John, another Bulls Alumni, for most of the season.

Gustafsson was a member of the 2012-13 Bulls National Championship team where he collected 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 35 games.

Gustafsson also received another honor by being named to the 2013-14 Hockey East All-Academic Team. He led the way with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average GPA, becoming the 13th player in program history to earn Top Scholar-Athlete honors and the first since 2012. Gustafsson also received the Distinguished Scholar Award for posting 3.0 or higher. In total, Merrimack College placed a league high 19 student athletes on that team.
