Ohio Machine News Release

COLUMBUS, OHIO (July 7, 2014) - Major League Lacrosse announced Monday that Ohio Machine defenseman Brian Farrell was named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in Ohio's 16-14 win over the Chesapeake Bayhawks on July 4.

Farrell helped lead the Machine defensively, collecting a game-high five groundballs while helping to hold the Bayhawks to just 14 goals. Farrell contributed offensively as well, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the victory. With eight points on the season, Farrell is tied for eight on the team in points and is the point leader among defensemen. His 20 groundballs this season is tied for fourth best on the team.

"I thought it was a great team win and we played great team defense," Farrell said. "(Brian) Phipps does a great job communicating with the defense and our short-stick d-middies played lights out. Dominique (Alexander), Jake (Bernhardt) and Danny (Groot) are the best group of defensive middies in the game and it makes my job that much easier to play with those guys."

Rob Pannell of the New York Lizards was awarded the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week. Pannell posted eight points, four goals and four assists, as the Lizards defeated the Florida Launch 20-11. Boston's Rob Emery was named the Cascade Rookie of the Week for his four goal performance in the Cannon's 17-13 win over the Denver Outlaws.

Following a bye week, the Machine returns to Selby Stadium on July 19 at 7 p.m. when the team takes on the Charlotte Hounds. Tickets for the game against Charlotte start at $12 and can be purchased by calling 614-754-1973 or visiting www.theohiomachine.com/tickets.
