Rogues Move Closer to First

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues avenged an earlier season sweep by the Klamath Falls Gems by thrashing the visitors 14-3 at Harry and David Field tonight. With the win, the Rogues sit in second of the South Division at 14-10 and hold a half game lead over the third placed Bend Elks. Klamath now holds an 8-16 record in the division.

From start to finish, the Rogues dominated the game on both offense and defense. A total of seven Rogues players recorded RBI's on the night and on the mound, Nathan Kutcha (2-1) started the defensive effort while both Mat Snider and Matt Loeffler closed out the evening. Kutcha pitched seven shutout innings, scattering seven hits with four strikeouts while Snider and Loeffler each pitched one. For the Gems, Jordan Kron (0-3) took the loss, his second loss to Medford in a week.

On offense, Joey Morgan came in for the Rogues and delivered three RBI's coming off of two at bats for one run and two hits. Morgan's batting average sits at a team leading .429 for the season. Also grabbing three RBI's for the Rogues tonight was third baseman Andre Vigil.

Designated hitter Nathan Etheridge had another big night for the Rogues as his four at bats for two runs, two hits, and one RBI helped secure the Rogues win. Etheridge has a batting average of .377 for the season.

The Rogues travel to division leaders Corvallis next for a three game series before finishing the week in Victoria when they take on the Victoria Harbour Cats. The Rogues return to home league action with a game against the Yakima Valley Pippins on Sunday, July 13 at 6:35 p.m.

The West Coast League is a 12-team collegiate wood-bat baseball league composed of the best college players, coaches, facilities and operators in the industry. Ranging from Medford, Oregon north to Kelowna, B.C., and the league has operated as the WCL since 2005. In June, 56 WCL players were selected in the Major League draft.
