Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums scored in six of their first seven at-bats on Saturday night and cruised to a 12-4 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts at Wuerfel Park, securing the series victory. The Beach Bums pounded out a season-high 16 hits on the night.

Traverse City found itself behind 2-0 before coming to bat in the last of the first, but Yazy Arbelo cut the deficit in half with a two-out solo homer, his team-leading 10th blast of the year.

After a home run from Garrett Carey put the ThunderBolts back on top 3-1, the Traverse City offense erupted for three runs in the each of the next two innings to take the lead for good.

In the last of the second inning, Josh Miller led off with a single, moved to third on a throwing error by the pitcher and scored a ground-rule double from Kevin Taylor. George Barber then smashed a two-run shot just to the left of dead-center field to put the Bums on top for the first time at 4-3. It was Barber's second round-tripper of the year.

An inning later, the same trio of players provided the offense as all three reached on singles with Miller scoring on a wild pitch and Barber driving home Taylor on an RBI single to push the lead to 6-3. Barber stole second and scored on a Jake Rhodes RBI base knock, making it 7-3. Rhodes went 4-for-5 on the night with an RBI.

Windy City cut the deficit to 7-4 in the top of the fourth, but the Bums offense kept clicking, scoring the final five runs of the game. Taylor led off the fifth inning with his first homer of the year down the left field line. He finished the game going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Barber was hit by a pitch after the Taylor homer and scored two batters later on a Greg Harisis single. Barber had a big night as well, going 2-for-4 with three runs score and three RBI.

Traverse City would add two more runs in the sixth on a wild pitch and a balk and finished the scoring on a Jovan Rosa RBi single in the last of the seventh to make the score 12-4.

The combination of Miller, Taylor, Barber, and Rhodes finished the evening with a combined 10 hits, nine runs scored and six runs batted in.

Ian MacDougall (2-2) was the beneficiary of the offensive support, giving up four runs on 10 hits in six innings for his first win as a starter this year. Windy City starter Travis McGee (0-1) didn't make it out of the third, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2.1 frames to take the loss.

Traverse City will look to finish off the sweep on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Rusty Shellhorn (2-0, 3.89) will toe the rubber for the Beach Bums against the Bolts' Travis Tingle (4-2, 4.23).
