Saupold K's Eight as 'Wolves Beat Ducks

The SeaWolves won their second straight as they jumped ahead early and took down the Akron RubberDucks 6-1 on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park.

Erie jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Akron starter Duke von Schamman. Jamie Johnson led off with a walk and moved to second on a Jason Krizan knock. Devon Travis hit into a fielder's choice putting runners on the corners for Steven Moya. Moya doubled down the right field line, plating a pair for a 2-0.

Akron's lone run came in the second against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Bryan LaHair doubled and moved to third on an Anthony Gallas single. LaHair scored on a wild pitch making it 2-1.

In the fifth, Johnson walked with one out and moved to second on a throwing error. With two outs, Travis singled home Johnson for a 3-1 lead. Travis would later scored on a passed ball for a 4-1 lead.

In the sixth, Ramon Cabrera led off with a double and moved to third on a Dean Green knock. Cabrera scored on an error for a 5-1 lead.

The 'Wolves went ahead 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Krizan and Travis connected on back-to-back singles with one out, putting runners on the corners. Moya lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Krizan for the final run.

Saupold (4-8) earned the win allowing a run on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. The eight strikeouts ties Saupold's career-high.
