San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have activated defensive back David Hyland from inactive reserve and been assigned offensive lineman Elliot Mealer. Correspondingly, the team placed defensive back Kenny Okoro on inactive reserve, and offensive lineman Jeff Nady was placed on league suspension.

"It is great to get David back," said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet. "We saw his playmaking ability earlier in the year, and we are excited to get him back on the field."

Hyland (5-11, 190, Morehead State) appeared in the first four games of the season for the SaberCats. In those contests, he notched 20.0 tackles (16 solo) with one interception, one fumble recovery and three pass breakups. Hyland also returned 19 kicks for 336 yards.

Mealer (6-5, 300, Michigan) is a rookie to the Arena Football League. During his career as a Wolverine, he appeared in 50 games, making 13 starts at center. Mealer was a part of the 2012 Michigan team that took home the Sugar Bowl victory, 23-20, over Virginia Tech.

The SaberCats (10-4) are back in action this Sunday at 5:00 pm as the head down south to face the LA KISS (3-11). With a win, San Jose will secure the Pacific Division Title, and lock up the #2 seed in the National Conference playoff race. Tune in on Comcast Sports Net Bay Area or listen live on KNBR 1050.
