July 4, 2014 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
FC Kansas City News Release

PRARIE VILLAGE, KAN. (July 4, 2014) -FC Kansas City will travel to Piscataway, NJ to take on Sky Blue FC this Sunday. Kick off on Yurcak Field is set for 5 PM CT and will be streamed live online for viewing. The Blues sit in second place currently after a big 1-0 win over Portland Thorns FC last week. Sky Blue FC's Wednesday match was postponed due to weather making their last game a scoreless tie with Seattle Reign FC.

Last Saturday FC Kansas City hosted Portland Thorns FC on Verizon Wireless Field. Player of the Month, Nicole Barnhart tallied another clean sheet with the 1-0 win. She currently leads the league with seven. Lauren Holiday took credit for the only goal of the night late in the first half. Amy Rodriguez stole the ball and found Holiday at the top of the box. The shot bounced off a Portland defender and found the back of the net. The Blues maintained the momentum of the match until Portland put in Jessica McDonald who sparked the offense and caused some trouble. The Thorns had a close chance in the last seconds of the match. A shot was fired right at Barnhart but she showed her true talent and easily caught it to keep the score 1-0 as the match ended.

Sky Blue FC played first place Seattle Reign FC and held the undefeated club scoreless after ninety minutes. Sky Blue goalkeeper, Brittany Cameron made an impressive 6 saves for the night, 4 in the first half alone. Both sides had close chances throughout the night but nothing could connect. Sydney Leroux found the post. Katy Freels was the leader of New Jersey attacks with four shots to her name. Seattle tried to intensify the pressure and score, but Sky Blue's defense held strong. Seattle is still undefeated this season, but have three draws this season. FC Kansas City takes credit for one of the draws.

Sunday will be the second meeting between FC Kansas City and Sky Blue FC. The first was the home opener on Verizon Wireless Field back in April. Both teams started the 2014 season out with a draw as the result was 1-1. Sky Blue has the most draws of any team in the National Women's Soccer League with 7 draws this season. The Blues are still undefeated in 8 games with the last 6 being wins. Sky Blue's defense will have to perform as well as it did against Seattle to hold off FC Kansas City's offense. Barnhart will look to continue her shutout streak that currently sits at 495 minutes. Rodriguez will command the other end of the pitch for FC Kansas City, she currently leads the team with 9 goals and 1 assist.

Kick off is set for 5 PM Central Time on Sunday, July 6th. Sky Blue will host FC Kansas City on Yurcak Field in Piscataway, NJ. The game will be streaming online at fckansascity.com/live-feed/. The Blues start a series of away games on Sunday and will not play on Verizon Wireless Field until July 27th. For tickets to the remaining home matches, call 855.4KC.GOAL
