Western New York Flash News Release

ELMA, N.Y. ( Friday, July 4, 2014 ) - On Saturday night, the Western New York Flash will head to BBVA Compass Stadium to take on the Houston Dash for the final time this season. After four games at home, this is the Flash's only road game before returning to Sahlen's Stadium for a three-game homestand. A win Saturday night could put the Flash into a tie for third place in the NWSL Standings.

The game will be live-streamed on the NWSL's official YouTube channel and can be watched by clicking the link here . Fans can also follow live play-by-play at the Flash's official Twitter page, @WNYFlash, and can join the conversation by using the hashtag #HOUvWNYF.

Western New York (6-8-2, 20 points) is coming off a 2-1 loss at the hands of the league-leading Seattle Reign FC.

For the third time in as many games against Seattle, the Flash scored the opening goal of the game to take the lead 1-0. Brittany Taylor's long free kick into the box deflected off of Keelin Winters straight to the feet of Vicky Losada. The resulting volley hit the underside of the crossbar, and bounced past the goal line for Losada's third goal of the season. This is the fourth game in a row the Flash has scored a goal from a set piece situation.

The Flash took the lead into halftime, but in the 62nd minute Kim Little sent a cross to the back post to a waiting Beverly Goebel. Goebel placed her header in the far side of the net to tie the game at one goal apiece.

Then, just as they did less than two weeks ago, the Reign found the game-winning goal late in the game. After entering her first game since April 13, Megan Rapinoe cut through two Flash defenders to send a low cross to Jessica Fishlock, who sent home the go-ahead-goal from just six yards out.

Houston is over halfway through its first season in the NWSL with a record of 4-9-1 (13 points), and is coming off a weather postponed game at Sky Blue FC. The Dash is currently on a two-game losing streak, which began just after its 2-1 win against the Flash on June 11. The Dash previously ended its longest winless streak this season, seven games, against the Flash.

In their first two meetings, Houston was victorious by a 2-1 score on both occasions. In the first game on May 31, the Dash handed Western New York its first home loss after overcoming a 1-0 halftime deficit on goals from Kealia Ohai and Nina Burger. Houston later beat the Flash on June 11 with a 65th minute game-winning penalty kick by Teresa Noyola.

With a win or draw on Saturday, the Flash would earn its first ever point against the expansion side, while a win would end the season series with a record of 1-2-0. Depending on other results, the Flash could move into a two or three-way tie for third place in the NWSL standings.

After the quick trip to Houston, the Flash return home for its second three-game homestand of the season, as the Washington Spirit visit for the first time this year. The Flash will be looking to win the season series, which is currently even at 1-1-0.
