 El Paso Chihuahuas

Chihuahuas beats Albuquerque

July 3, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

On the day he was named a Triple-A All-Star, Jonathan Galvez hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the seventh inning of the El Paso Chihuahuas 7-6 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes Thursday. The Chihuahuas win came in front of 10,135 fans, the largest crowd in Southwest University Park history and the 29th sellout in 39 home openings for El Paso.

The Chihuahuas took an early 4-0 lead on a first inning RBI double by Jeff Francoeur and RBIs in the second inning by Cody Decker, Rico Noel and Jace Peterson. Down 6-3 in the seventh inning, Albuquerque came back to tie the game in a rally that included six straight singles. Galvez's home run put the Chihuahuas ahead to stay as Branch Kloess and Hector Ambriz held the Isotopes scoreless after El Paso took the lead.

Chris Smith pitched five innings and allowed three runs in his second start with the Chihuahuas after being signed as a free agent by San Diego last week. The Chihuahuas went 5-3 in their eight-game homestand. El Paso has won eight of its last 12 games.
