Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Kevin Walrod. He joins forward Sean Wiles as the second player announced as signed by the Royals to an ECHL Standard Players Contract for the 2014-15 season. Consistent with team policy, terms of the SPC were not released.

Walrod (6'0/193) (25), who will be entering his second year of pro, recorded twenty-four points (8g-16a) and played to a plus-15 (+15) in thirty-nine games with Reading last season. Walrod also bagged a pair of playoff points, scoring a goal and recording an assist in the team's only post-season win last year (and his first playoff game as a pro)-a 4-2 victory in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Fort Wayne Komets.

Walrod scored his eight regular season goals with Reading on just fifty-six shots which translated into a 14.3% scoring percentage-second best on the team to Yannick Tifu (14.8%). Walrod's goals with the Royals included two game winners (March 26 v Elmira; and April 2 v Orlando), which were scored in the span of three games during a late season five-game win streak for the Royals. A native of Westside, British Columbia, Walrod was picked up by the Royals on January 6, 2014, after being waived by the Evansville Icemen. His acquisition coincided with the Royals' remarkable 31-10-1-2 record in the final 44 games of the regular season.

Walrod began his rookie season with the Bloomington Thunder of the Southern Professional Hockey League, where he led the team with twenty-three points (13g-10a) in twenty-one games prior to being called-up and signed by Evansville on December 27, 2013. He played five games with the Icemen, recording a pair of assists in the team's 6-0 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on December 31. In his games with Evansville, he also played to a plus-3 (+3).

Prior to turning pro, Walrod played four seasons of college hockey for Michigan State University, where he racked up forty-four points (16g-28a) and sixty-two penalty minutes in 123 games with the Spartans. After the conclusion of his collegiate career in March of 2013, he joined the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL for four games.
