Amarillo Bulls Conclude Successful Western Region Invite Camp

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls concluded a very successful 2nd camp of the summer over the weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Western Region Invite camp featured more than 70 hopefuls from across the country looking for a spot at the Bulls Main Camp later this month.

Bulls Head Coach John Rogger said they were pleased with the talent there.

"Overall I thought the camp went very well," said Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger. "We had a terrific all-star game on Sunday that featured over 42 players. Out of the whole camp, we believe that approximately 20 to 25 players will be invited to Main Camp but we are still finalizing that."

The Western Region Invite Camp began with a goalie clinic and included high competitive games throughout the weekend.

Forward JJ (James) Huerena and defenseman Sean Giles, of the Colorado Rampage, who were tendered by the Bulls during the year also participated in the camp. Rogger said the young men looked solid.

"Whenever there was a big goal or a nice play, I looked down to the roster and noticed right away that it was them," he said. "They were both great young men so I think they should be able to make contributions to our line-up right away."

For many of the players, it's their one and only shot to be noticed or seen so an off day or a slow start can set them back and be forced to play catch-up. Rogger said that off-days are something that players involved in these camps can't have.

"It may be our only chance to see them," he said. "Logan Speelman took part over the weekend and I coached his brother in Green Bay. Logan had a slow start on the first day but bounced back and did well and it helped that I knew him."

Rogger said there is a lot of buzz about the Amarillo Bulls as the success on and off the ice the past four years is being noticed.

"I am new to the organization, but it's obvious talking to players that the Bulls reputation of not only being a first class organization but being able to move players on the next level is important to them and the reason why they want to be part of our organization," he said.

Up next for the Amarillo Bulls is Main Camp that will take place in Brighton, Michigan near the end of the month.

"We are still talking to some free agents and a few Europeans," he said. "I am happy with where we are at this time."
