Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, announced today that they have agreed to terms with F Nick Larson and have extended qualifying offers to eight players.

Larson (6-2, 207 lbs.) was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round, #108 overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and started last season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) where he scored four goals and added two assists for six points and 20 PIM in 17 games. He totaled six points (3g, 3a) and 30 PIM in 15 games with the Stockton Thunder before finishing the season with seven goals and two assists for nine points and 45 PIM in 23 games for the South Carolina Stingrays. His ECHL totals for last season include 10 goals and 5 assists for 15 points to go along with 75 PIM in 38 games. Larson made his professional debut with the Peoria Rivermen (AHL) at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, the Apple Valley, MN, native skated four seasons (2009-13) for the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, helping the team to a CCHA Championship in 2012-13. Larson appeared in 152 games with Notre Dame during his collegiate career, scoring 47 points (25g, 22a) and picking up 194 PIM. He skated two seasons (2007-09) in the USHL for the Waterloo Black Hawks and played in the USHL All-Star Game in 2008-09. That season, Larson was seventh in the USHL with 144 PIM while also finishing sixth on his team with 19 goals and seventh with 36 points in 51 games.

The eight players issued qualifying offers by the Orlando Solar Bears include: Cody Reichard (G), Bryce Aneloski (D), Eric Baier (D), Connor Goggin (D), Blake Kessel (D), Jacob Cepis (F), Tyler Murovich (F), and Kory Nagy (F)

Each team was entitled to reserve the rights to a maximum of eight (8) qualified players. Of the eight qualified players, no more than four could be veterans (260 regular season professional hockey games played as of the start of the upcoming 2014-15 season). Players on open qualifying offers cannot be traded.

The qualifying offer must remain open for acceptance until August 1 at which time the qualifying offer becomes null and void and the team may sign the qualified player to any salary or may elect to take no further action. Teams that extend a valid qualifying offer to a non-veteran player shall retain the rights to that qualified player for one playing season.

A team that extends a valid qualifying offer to a veteran player will retain the rights to that veteran until August 1. After that date, if the veteran player is not signed to a contract by the team, the veteran shall be deemed a restricted free agent and shall be entitled to seek and secure offers of employment from other ECHL teams. Restricted free agents may not be traded. When a restricted free agent receives a contract offer from a team other than the team with the player's rights and the restricted free agent wishes to accept the contract offer, the restricted free agent and the offering member must, within 24 hours, notify the ECHL, the team with the player's rights and the Professional Hockey Players' Association. The member with the player's rights shall have seven days after the date it is notified to exercise its right to match the contract offer.

If a restricted free agent is not signed to either an offer sheet or a contract by an ECHL team by August 31, the player shall be deemed an unrestricted free agent.

Players who had already signed a contract by June 30 did not need to receive a qualifying offer.
