Houston Dynamo FC News Release

Jack McInerney scored two goals to lead the Montreal Impact to a 3-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday night at Stade Saputo.

The Dynamo (5-10-2; 17 points) return to BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday to host the New York Red Bulls at 7:30 p.m.

The Dynamo welcomed the return of veteran midfielders Boniek Garcia and Ricardo Clark.

Garcia joined the club in Montreal after appearing in three games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. After starting for Honduras on Wednesday in Manaus, Brazil, Garcia started for the Dynamo and played 90 minutes in defeat. It was Garcia's first game with Houston since a 1-0 win over the LA Galaxy on May 17.

Clark entered as a substitute in the 74th minute for his first appearance since April 23 at New York. Clark missed 11 games in all competitions after suffering a concussion against the Red Bulls.

Early on, Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall made an important save on Felipe, who had slipped in behind the defense and drove a low shot near the front post from 12 yards.

In the 30th minute, Houston nearly seized the lead. Giles Barnes lofted a precise ball in behind the Montreal defense and Omar Cummings settled with his chest before unleashing a half-volley from 20 yards that crashed off the post, near the upper corner, for a near-wonder goal.

The Impact instead went ahead 11 minutes later. Left back Eric Miller served a cross from the corner of the box in front of the penalty spot, and McInerney headed past Hall for a 1-0 lead.

Montreal forward Marco Di Vaio entered the game at halftime and had a scoring chance in the 57th minute, driving alone into the penalty and firing a shot toward the top of goal, but Hall held his ground a made a quick reflex save, reaching above his head to palm Di Vaio's shot over the crossbar.

The Impact made it 2-0 in the 75th minute. Substitute midfielder Justin Mapp dribbled to the end line and crossed to the top of the box, where McInerney used an acrobatic instep volley to send the ball off the far post on its way into the net.

Montreal capped the scoring four minutes later. Andres Romero moved into the left side of the penalty area and forced Hall into a diving save. The rebound fell to Di Vaio, who tapped in from four yards for a 3-0 win.

Garcia threatened the Montreal goal eight minutes later, finding space at the top of the box and striking a curling shot toward the far post that required a save from Troy Perkins.

Houston has lost five straight league games for the first time in club history.

The Dynamo return to Houston to host the New York Red Bulls on Friday, July 4 at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Dynamo Milestones:

It was Will Bruin's 125th career appearance in all competitions with the Dynamo.

It was Giles Barnes' 50th career MLS regular season start.
