Vancouver Volcanoes News Release

Vancouver, WA - In front of an enthusiastic home crowd the Vancouver Volcanoes pulled out avictory after a hard fought comeback by the Portland Chinooks. The Volcanoes won 156-148 as IBL In The Game Watch List leader Andre Murray poured in 43points.

"Were going to enjoy this one, we had some execution issues late in the fourth quarter, but I'm happy the way the guys played. We almost didn't hold the Chinooks off, Kevin Ford is really good, and when he gets going like that they are really hard to guard. We missed some defensive assignments, but luckily our offensive was clicking and carried us down the fourth. We are both really deep teams," Head Coach Joe Navarro commented.

Navarro was announced as 2014 IBL Coach of the Year, 6'2" G Andre Murray as the 2014 IBL MVP and 6'6" F Adam Herman . Murray also picked up a nod for 2014 IBL All Star on the First Team, 6'10" C Calvin Hampton and 6'9" F Brian Morris on the All Star Second Team and, veteran 6'7" G Cory Largent to the Third Team of All Stars.

"They are all great, but the one we all want is tomorrow. If we come out and win tomorrow, we will enjoy those a lot more than just having the individual awards. It doesn't matter who it is tomorrow that we face, it is about us right now. I will watch the Slam vs Flight game to scout it, but really going to work on our x's and o's."

With one championship to their credit, the Volcanoes are ready for another title game. "It would mean everything to win the title. Our guys who were on the team that won in 2011 understand that and the new guys that haven't won it are starting to understand how serious it is," Navarro shared.

The Volcanoes are in the IBL Championship game Sunday 5pm at Clark College, with the opponent to be determined, featuring One of a Kind Drumline at halftime and the Volcanoes Dancers performances. Admission at the door at Clark College Adults $15, Students under 18 and Seniors over 65 $7, Children Age 7 & under FREE!
