Michael Dal Colle Selected by the New York Islanders, 5th Overall

Oshawa, ON - Oshawa Generals star left winger Michael Dal Colle has been selected by the New York Islanders in the 1st round, 5th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia.

Michael was thrilled the #5 selection saying "It has always been my dream, even as a kid to get drafted to the NHL. This is a very exciting time for me and my family!"

Dal Colle, 18, enjoyed a tremendous sophomore season with the Generals accumulating 39 goals, with 56 assists, totalling 95 points in 67 games played during the regular season. The Vaughan, ON native followed that up with 8 goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 12 playoff games.

"As an organization we couldn't be happier to be a part of Michael's development into one of the world's elite players" said Generals GM Roger Hunt.

Known for his tremendous talent, Dal Colle was originally ranked 5th in NHL Central Scouting's Final rankings for this year's draft.

Generals Owner Rocco Tullio had this to say, "On behalf of our entire Generals family we are extremely excited for Michael and his family on being drafted so high! He is a tremendous hockey player and even better person, and has always conducted himself at a first class level in our organization."

Dal Colle was a 7th overall selection in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection and went on to have a tremendous rookie season scoring 15 goals and 33 assists for 48 points in 63 games.

The 6-foot-2 forward also has international experience having represented Canada at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, where he captured a gold medal in 2013, and also appeared in the 2013 Subway Super Series tournament in Oshawa this past year. Dal Colle also represented Team Ontario at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Quebec and has just recently been invited to Canada's 2015 World Junior summer development camp taking place August 3rd - 8th in Brossard, Montreal and Sherbrooke, Quebec.
