Medford Rogues News Release

KLAMATH FALLS, OR - With a chance to extend its division lead over Corvallis to two games, the Medford Rogues lost to the Klamath Falls Gems 11-3 at Kiger Stadium on Tuesday night. The Rogues fell to 10-5 on the season while the Gems, after a terrible start to the year, won their third and a row and move to 6-11 for the year. The Medford loss, combined with a Wenatchee win over Corvallis, kept the Rogues' lead in the WCL South at two games.

The Rogues struck first with a single run in the top of the first inning as DH Chris DeVito walked and moved to second on a Tanner Lubach single. 3B Adonis Morrison singled to bring in DeVito and the Rogues took an early 1-0 lead. Klamath Falls tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth, three Gems errors combined with a wild pitch by Gems starter Austin McGeorge led to an additional run for Medford to bring the score to 2-1. In the fifth OF Spencer Smith scored from second base on an RBI double by DeVito to add a run and make it 3-1 through four and a half.

In the sixth, the Gems answered with an RBI single by 1B Steven Packard to cut the Medford lead to one. Klamath Falls chased Rogues LHP Christian Cox, in his first start of the season. A three-run double given up by reliever Trent Shelton gave the Gems a 5-3 lead. The next batter, CF Jay Anderson, hit a two-run home run over the right field wall to extend the Klamath Falls lead to 7-3 through six. A late run in the seventh made the final score 8-3.

Gems starter Austin McGeorge went five innings giving up three runs but did not figure in the decision as Ryan Strombom (1-0) picked up the win for Klamath Falls. Cox (0-1), with the runs allowed by Shelton, gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Each player in the Gems batting order got at least one hit in the Gems' 13 hit attack. The Rogues managed five scattered hits on the game.

The two teams meet on Wednesday night at Harry & David Field in Medford, game time is 6:35 p.m.
