DES MOINES - This Saturday, June 28, the Iowa Barnstormers will host their 5th Annual Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Allied Insurance, as the team takes on their East Division rivals, the Philadelphia Soul. Doors to Wells Fargo Arena will open at 6:00 p.m. while kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
Allied Insurance Military Appreciation Night with the Iowa Barnstormers is a great opportunity to honor local troops during a fun-filled night of football. Military soldiers from around the area have been invited to attend Saturday night's game, thanks to our partnering sponsors.
Prior to kickoff, fans may have their picture taken with military vehicles presented by the U.S. Army and Navy. Several military guests will take part in pre-game events including a bagpipe performance by the Mackenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums. Sergeant Bobby Jones of the U.S. Army will share our National Anthem while the Stars and Stripes are presented by the State Color Guard VFW.
An anticipated event of Military Appreciation Night includes the annual jersey auction where all proceeds will benefit the American Legion Riders Post 663. These game-worn, camouflage jerseys which are exclusive to Military Night will be featured in a silent auction located behind section 124. The silent auction is open to all fans and will extend from when doors open at 6:00 p.m. until the midst of the fourth quarter. Each jersey will be sold to the highest bidder and presented by the player themselves. A photo opportunity with the player and jersey will be available.
Bikes brought in by members of the American Legion Riders Post 663 will form the tunnel for the Iowa Barnstormers introductions where players will be introduced with a military soldier by their side.
Fans won't want to miss out on the first-ever indoor flyover at Wells Fargo Arena.
At halftime, twenty-one future soldiers will take their Oath of Enlistment during the U.S. Army swear-in ceremony.
