June 12, 2014 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Hannibal Cavemen News Release

The Hannibal Cavemen played the Springfield Sliders last night at Clemens field and came up with a 7-4 victory. With their win last night, The Cavemen are now leading the West Division of the Prospect League. Manager Jay Hemond is happy with his team's standing, but he recognizes that it's still early in the season. "The goal right now is to be at the top when the half ends," says Hemond. The Cavemen are playing well as a team both defensively and offensively. The Cavemen demonstrated their offensive strength in the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth Dan Ferguson hit a double. Brandon Bentson followed his lead, hitting a single and allowing Ferguson to score. Hayden McMillon then hit a single as well, putting Cavemen players on first and second base. Kaleb Zimmer was then walked. With the bases loaded, Jonathon Allison sacrificed a fly ball to left field allowing Bentson to score. Christian Cavaness then singled permitting McMillon to score. Outfielder, Christian Cavaness went 2-5 against the Sliders last night. He singled in the fourth and sixth innings. Cavaness leads the league with a .429 batting average.

The Cavemen had 8 hits on the night capitalizing on seven of them to get runs. Returning pitcher Dylan Terrell starts his second game of the season for the Cavemen with nine ground ball outs, three strikeouts, and four hits after seven innings. Justin Hertzmann and Colton Kibler closed out the game. With the Cavemen on a winning streak, fans won't want to miss the game at Clemens Field tonight against the Danville Dans (6-7). Gates open at 6:00 pm and the first pitch is thrown at 7:05 pm. Tonight is Fast Friday at the ballpark. Kids of all ages get to run the bases after the game.
