Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Sacramento, CA - Johnny Giavotella collected three hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs to power Omaha past Sacramento, 10-4, Wednesday night in the third of four meetings at Raley Field. The Storm Chasers pounded out 16 hits to lift their record to 35-31 overall and 17-17 on the road and remain a half-game behind victorious Oklahoma City in the American Conference North Division.

Tyler Ladendorf opened the home first with a triple and scored the game's first run when Andy Parrino followed with a base hit. Omaha starter John Lamb then walked the next two hitters to load the bases but wriggled out of the jam by striking out Nate Frieman, Shane Peterson and Michael Taylor in succession to squash a potentially big inning and flip the momentum. Omaha answered in the next half inning and took the lead for good with two-out RBI hits by Whit Merrifield and Paulo Orlando, who pushed his road hitting streak to 34 consecutive games, and a wild pitch that scored Jesus Flores to make it a 3-1 game.

The visitors struck again in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Christian Colon that was followed by Giavotella's three-run shot that lengthened their lead to 7-2 and knocked Sacramento starter Matt Buschmann out of the game after 3 1/3 innings during which he yielded nine hits, walked three and fanned four. Giavotella doubled home a pair and scored on a wild pitch to expand the visitors advantage to 10-2 in the eighth. Flores finished with three hits and three runs scored while Merrifield, Orlando, Jimmy Paredes and Brett Eibner chipped in with two hits apiece as Omaha reached double figures in runs for the first time since May 15.

Lamb navigated his way through five innings, long enough to earn the win after he was charged with two runs on four hits while he walked four and struck out six. Buddy Baumann tossed scoreless relief in the sixth and seventh innings and was lifted following a lead-off double in the eighth. Chris Dwyer took over and battled his control as he uncorked a wild pitch that allowed a run to score and walked in another to account for the final margin and end the Omaha bullpen's run of 21 1/3 consecutive scoreless frames. The Chasers third southpaw of the evening avoided further damage by getting Daric Barton to fly out with the bases filled to end the threat. Wilking Rodriguez then retired the side in order in the ninth to close out the Chasers 16th win in their last 25 games away from home.

The series wraps up Thursday night with Omaha sending Sugar Ray Marimon to the mound against River Cats right-hander Arnold Leon. Coverage of the game gets underway at 8:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
