Michael McLeod Commits to Mississauga Steelheads

MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads are pleased to announce that their firstround pick inthe 2014 OHL Priority Selection, Michael McLeod, has committed to the team.
McLeod was selected by Mississauga in the 1 stround, 5 thoverall inthe 2014 OHL Priority Selection. Born February 3, 1998, the Mississauga native is best known for his play-making and high-end skating ability. Last season with the Toronto Marlboros, McLeod finished 3rd in GTHL scoring with 21 goals and 36 assists in 33 games, adding 7 points in 5 playoff games. McLeod also went on to shine in his second OHL Cup with 7 goals and 4 assists, earning him the Most Valuable Player honour, while leading the Marlboros to the OHL Cup Championship.
After being selected by the Steelheads, McLeod suited up for Team GTHL Blue at the 2014 U16 Gold Cup. Over the course of the four day tournament featuring the top 160 under-16 players in Ontario, McLeod continued to produce on the ice, scoring 3 goals and 1 assist in 5 tournament games as he helped guide Team GTHL Blue to a spot in the championship game against Team OMHA White.
Head Coach and General Manager, James Boyd is excited to have McLeod join the Steelheads line up, adding "Michael McLeod is a very competitive forward with a developed skill set. â=80=8E Michael has all the tools to make an immediate contribution with our hockey club."
Steelheads Owner, Elliott Kerr is eager to add some hometown talent to the young Steelheads team, mentioning that "we were thrilled that Mike was available to us in the first round of the 2014 Priority Selection. We have a mandate to focus on local players, with not just hockey ability, but character as well. Mike McLeod is all of this and more."
The Steelheads welcome Michael and the McLeod family to the Mississauga Steelheads organization.
