Law Cruise to 62-26 Win over Kansas Koyotes

The Dodge City Law closed out their inaugural regular season of play on Saturday night at United Wireless Arena with an impressive 62-26 victory of the Kansas Koyotes.
Coming into the game, the Law knew that their playoff seed would not change regardless of whether they won the game or not. However, the Law played intensely and with the sole goal of coming away with a victory in their final regular season home game.
By halftime, the Law led 26-2, which was due in no small part to the efforts of running back Dominique Carson. He scored on runs of 3, 1, 4, and 2 yards in the first two quarters and added a fifth touchdown in the fourth quarter when he scored on a 2-yard run.
Quarterback Josh Floyd also played well for the Law. Floyd had rushing touchdowns of 13 and 5 yards to go along with a 25-yard passing touchdown to wide receiver Kendrick Ings and a 4-yard passing touchdown to wide receiver Brandon Venson.
The Law defense held up their end of the bargain by doing a stellar job of containing the Kansas offense.
As a team, the Koyotes averaged less than a yard per carry on 11 carries for a total of 8 rushing yards.
The defense also kept quarterback Stanley Jennings, last week's CPIFL Offensive Player of the Week, from being able to guide his team to the end zone through the air.
Jennings completed 16-of36 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns, but he threw 3 interceptions and had nearly a dozen passes defended by Law defensive backs.
Once the Law had the game firmly in hand, Law Head Coach Sean Ponder began to stray from orthodox play calling and allowed his players to try some things that they have never done before in a game.
Mack Randall, Jr., the 380 lb. offensive lineman, lined up in the backfield on a two-point conversion attempt and ran the ball in for a score.
"Mack has been lined up in the backfield a number of times this season, but he has only been used as a blocker," Ponder said. "He's done a great job at it, but I thought it would be interesting to see if he could run for a few yards. He was able to get into the end zone on the two-point conversion which was great for him and for all of our fans. They loved it."
Later on in the game, after kicker Jared Wood left with an ankle injury and a possible concussion, 340 lb. offensive lineman Kyle McManus took over the kickoff duties.
Following the game, Ponder said he was more than satisfied with how his team played as a unit.
"I feel really good about how our guys played tonight," Ponder said. "On offense we were able to protect our quarterback and we did a job of running the ball and passing. Our defense also played well, as they have so many times this year. We let some opportunities slip through our fingers by dropping passes that should have been interceptions, but other than that, we did a pretty good job of containing Kansas' offense."
Next Saturday, the Law will travel east to Wichita for a 7:05 contest against the Wichita Wild in the first round of the CPIFL Playoffs.
