Reign FC extends unbeaten streak

SEATTLE - Seattle Reign FC (9-0-2, 29 pts) remain unbeaten following its 3-1 victory over the Chicago Red Stars (6-4-1, 19 pts) on Saturday, June 7 in front of a franchise-record crowd of 4,222 at the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium.

In a physical matchup, two penalty kick conversions by Scottish international Kim Little - who has now scored in six straight games - would prove to be the difference as Reign FC extended its unbeaten streak to a league-record 11 games.

After a scoreless first half that saw the two teams combine for eight shots on goal (five by Seattle), the Red Stars drew first blood in the 63rd minute, after Australian international and former Reign FC midfielder Emily van Egmond headed one past goalkeeper Hope Solo after a failed clearance.

Despite giving up the first goal for the fourth straight game, Reign FC would even the score just three minutes later, with Little converting her first penalty kick of the night for the equalizer after forward Beverly Goebel was tackled in the box.

Seattle then took the lead in the 69th minute, after forward Sydney Leroux sent a strike from outside the box off a defender, past a leaping LeBlanc, and just under the crossbar, for her second goal of the year.

In the 77th minute, Little put the game out of reach and scored her league-leading 11th goal of the season, with her second penalty kick conversion after Leroux was leveled in the area.

Midfielder Jessica Fishlock nearly added a fourth goal for Reign FC in stoppage time, chipping a shot just over the crossbar on a breakaway.

On the defensive end, U.S. Women's National Team keeper Hope Solo made four saves, and has now passed LeBlanc for the best goals against average in the NWSL at 0.818.

With the victory, Reign FC remains atop the league standings with 29 points, eight points ahead of second-place FC Kansas City.
