Musketeers Announce a Revamped Camp System

June 3, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL) Sioux City Musketeers

Sioux City, Iowa - The Sioux City Musketeers have release details regarding changes to their annual tryout camp system, expanding their reach to the east and west coasts of the United States.

Seeing a need to reach out and see talent in other parts of the country, Musketeers Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jay Varady put a new camp system into place for the 2014-15 season. The main camp, held annually at the IBP Ice Center in Sioux City, Iowa, remains in the same location, but includes a few changes.

The Futures camp remains in place, and brings in talented players who will be in the 2015 draft class. Phase 1 of the 2015 USHL Draft is traditionally held in May of each year. This years Futures camp will consist mainly of players born in 1999.

The main camp has a change in philosophy from years past. Veteran players will no longer compete in the annual main camp, although some veterans will be on hand. The main camp will focus on draft pics, affiliates, and other quality players that are funneled into the main camp from expansion camps held in Everett, Washington and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The Everett and Wilkes-Barre camps were put into play to offer players from regions on the east and west coasts to gain exposure to not just the Musketeers, but the USHL in general. Between the two coastal camps, twenty players were invited to come to Sioux City and compete in the Musketeers main camp.

A goaltender camp has been added back into the mix for this years camp, with as many as 24 goaltenders scheduled to be in house for the 3 day goaltender camp.

Fans will get a chance to see the final 2014-15 product on the ice in a new orientation camp, to be held at the IBP Ice Center from July 22nd through July 25th. The orientation camp will include draft pics, affiliates and all rostered players, who will converge on Sioux City to begin laying the groundwork for the upcoming 2014-15 season. The 4 day camp is designed to orientate and integrate new players into the Musketeers system.

The 2014-15 Musketeers Captains were announced in May of this year. The move, designed to announce and lay the foundation for the upcoming season, came as a surprise to fans who are accustomed to seeing this announcement in the fall.
