Former Stingrays Goaltender Joins Rangers' Stanley Cup Run
June 3, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
With New York Rangers backup goaltender Cam Talbot listed with an undisclosed injury heading into Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow, former Stingrays netminder David LeNeveu steps in.
Here we go! A quick 5.5 hr flight to LA!
- Dave LeNeveu (@LeNeveu01) June 2, 2014
LeNeveu joined the Stingrays in late November last season and made an immediate impact, recording back-to-back shutouts in his first two appearances en route to a 4-4-0 record, 1.64 goals-against average, .940 save percentage and three shutouts.
A veteran of over 300 American Hockey League (AHL) contests heading into the 2013-14 season, the Fernie, British Columbia, native earned a one-game call-up to the Providence Bruins before joining the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate. In 22 contests with Hartford, LeNeveu grabbed a 12-8-0 standing, 2.46 goals-against average and .915 save percentage along with three shutouts.
With 22 National Hockey League (NHL) games under his belt with the Phoenix Coyotes and Columbus Blue Jackets, LeNeveu jumped back to top-tier status shortly after his AHL arrival, signing with the Rangers on January 21 and served as Talbot's backup against the New York Islanders that evening when star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was unable to play. He was reassigned to Hartford two days later .

Heading into the postseason, the Wolf Pack did not qualify for the AHL's Calder Cup Playoffs, so LeNeveu, along with several teammates, joined the Rangers as "Black Aces," a term referring to the extra players a team carries in case of injury. In addition to the extra workouts along New York's run to the Finals, LeNeveu stood in place of Talbot in the main practice on Monday and Tuesday.
