Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Byron Froese and Jonathan Hazen potted goals just 21 seconds apart in the first period which turned out to be just enough as the Cyclones (13-7) defeated the Alaska Aces (13-4) by a 2-1 final score in front of a sold out crowd of 6,438 at Sullivan Arena on Saturday night. The victory for Cincinnati pulled the Kelly Cup Finals, a best-of-seven series, even at one.

The Aces jumped ahead at 12:17 of the opening period when a bouncing puck found Ross Ring-Jarvi, who knocked in his first postseason goal past Rob Madore (W, 35 saves, 13-7) to make it 1-0. However, beginning at the 15:13 mark, Byron Froese and Jonathan Hazen beat Gerald Coleman (L, 21 saves, 7-3) just 21 seconds apart to quickly take a 2-1 edge - which they carried into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, the teams battled on into the third with the one-goal differential. Midway through the stanza, Joe Basaraba appeared to have scored his first pro playoff goal; however, the referees determined that it was kicked into the net so it got waved off and the 2-1 contest remained. After killing a late penalty, the Cyclones were then tasked with sealing the victory while fighting off a six-on-five with an extra attacker. Despite some close calls at the net, Madore and the Cyclones were able to hold on to the victory and knotted the Kelly Cup Finals at one game apiece.

After an off day on Sunday, the Kelly Cup Finals will resume in Anchorage with Game 3 on Monday night at 11:15pm ET. Fans can hear all the action on the Cyclones Radio Network (CyclonesHockey.com, America One, Cyclones Mobile App) beginning at 10:45pm ET.

The Cyclones will return to U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, June 6 to host the Alaska Aces in Game 4 of the 2014 Kelly Cup Finals. Great seats for the action are on sale NOW!
