Mississippi RiverKings News Release

HERNANDO, Miss. - It was a championship game for the ages as the Country Ford Hawks took the Jr. StreetKings 2014 Spring Championship Trophy home amidst a late comeback attempt by the runners up, the Super Drugs Swarm, on Thursday night.

The playoffs began with the battle between the Super Drugs Swarm and the Rebels to decide who would face the Country Ford Hawks in the championship game. The Swarm grabbed the lead early and never looked back as they cruised to a 9-6 victory behind goals by Leyton Roeber, Nathan Degray, and the Davis brothers, William and Walker to push the Swarm to the championship game.

The Rebels finished the regular season in second place and had the league's leading scorer in Tanner Ogle. With the help of his teammates and coaches, Tanner racked up 21 goals and 10 assists in only 12 games.

The championship bout featured the two highest scoring teams in the league and they did not disappoint. In the first half, the Hawks looked rested and ready as they jumped out to a five-goal lead with big showings by their third line. Zack White and Jack Jewell, the league's third line M.V.P., both tallied two goals and Marli Reynolds showed off her passing, dishing out two assists.

The Swarm showed why they made it to the championship in the second half however. The Swarm were led by a different pair of brothers in this game, Hunter and Colton Cleary, who combined for three goals and two assists. Despite a late surge, the Hawks held on to take the 15-12 victory and first place trophy.

The 2014 season would not have been possible without the two team sponsors, Super Drugs Pharmacy and Country Ford. These community sponsors helped to supply the jerseys for their teams and sponsorships for kids who may not have been able to play otherwise.

"At Super Drugs Pharmacies, we are so proud of the Jr. StreetKings for a great season!" said Eddie O'Bannon of Super Drugs Pharmacy. "We appreciate the opportunity to support our community as they continually support local, independent pharmacies and our dedication to providing customized care to our patients".

Registration for the Fall Season begins June 1, 2014. For more information on the Jr. StreetKings Youth Roller Hockey League, please visit www.jrstreetkings.com or contact Colby Dorris at 662-342-1755 or colby@riverkings.com.
