May 17, 2014 - American Association (AA)
Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

Amarillo Sox pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts, but 18 Winnipeg hits plated 12 runs in the Goldeyes' 12-2 rout of the Sox Friday night in front of 2,942 fans at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

For the third consecutive night, the Goldeyes scored in the first inning. Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run by centerfielder Reggie Abercrombie off Sox starter Dayne Quist. The Goldeyes would add three more runs in the third inning, taking advantage of three hits and two Sox errors to increase the lead to 5-0.

For the second night in a row, the Sox hitters struggled getting anything going against Winnipeg pitching. Goldeyes starter Matthew Jackson threw 6.1 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out 5. Winnipeg would blow the game open in the top of the 8th with five more runs off left-handed reliever Brian Smith.

Trailing 12-0 going into the bottom of the 9th, the Sox would finally find the scoreboard with RBI singles by Josh Miller and Lyndon Estill to make the final score Winnipeg 12, Amarillo 2. Quist takes the loss for Amarillo, while Jackson gets the win for Winnipeg.

The Sox will look for a split of the opening four-game series tomorrow night at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. First pitch will be at 6:05, with all fans getting free admission courtesy of Family Medicine Centers. It marks the first of nine free Sundays for Sox fans, courtesy of our corporate sponsors.
