IceCaps Can't Finish off Admirals

St. John's IceCaps News Release

NORFOLK, VA - Andre Petersson scored a power play goal at 13:10 of the first overtime as the Norfolk Admirals stayed alive with a 3-2 victory over the St. John's IceCaps Tuesday night at The Scope.

Petersson blasted a shot from the point that beat Michael Hutchinson, who had made 13 saves in the extra frame to that point. The win by Norfolk forces Game 6 back at Mile One Centre in St. John's Friday night, as the IceCaps hold a 3-2 series edge.

Eric O'Dell had both goals for the IceCaps, while Hutchinson made 34 saves in total.

O'Dell continued his hot play of late with the game's opening goal at 6:23 of the first. After taking a feed from Kyle MacKinnon just inside the Admirals blueline, O'Dell make a nifty toe drag to beat his man before firing a snap shot past Thiessen.

After a Norfolk goal was called back due to too many men on the ice, the Admirals made one count following the penalty. Max Friberg blasted a slap shot that hit Hutchinson and flew up in the air over his head, trickling across the goal line to make it 1-1 with 1:49 left in the first.

In the third, Norfolk jumped out in front just 48 seconds in. Theodore picked up the puck along the side boards and made a nice move around an IceCaps defender before slipping a backhand past Hutchinson to make it 2-1.

O'Dell tied things up with 2:58 left in regulation when he converted a beautiful feed from Carl Klingberg. Heading towards the net, O'Dell one-timed the pass underneath the crossbar to even the score at two apiece and send the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, it was Petersson who scored to extend the series after Andrew Gordon was assessed a tripping penalty.

Game 6 goes Friday night at Mile One Centre (7:30 PM NT). Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com, 930 AM, Rogers TV, Eastlink TV and AHL Live. Pregame show gets underway at 7:00.
