St. John's IceCaps News Release

NORFOLK, VA - The St. John's IceCaps dominated from the opening faceoff en route to a big 5-1 win in Game 4 Monday night at The Scope in Norfolk, VA.

With the win, St. John's took a commanding 3-1 series lead and can advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second time in three seasons with a win Tuesday night.

Eric O'Dell scored twice, Jason Jaffray had a goal and two assists, and Carl Klingberg notched a goal and an assist. Will O'Neill and Josh Morrissey each had a pair of helpers, while Jerome Samson recorded the other tally. Michael Hutchinson stopped 28-of-29 shots in the win.

St. John's once again struck first on Klingberg's first of the postseason just 4:11 in. O'Neill one-timed a shot from the point that was deflected by Klingberg in front of Brad Thiessen and into the back of the net. Morrissey picked up the other assist as the IceCaps took a 1-0 lead.

The IceCaps increased their lead on the power play at 14:39 of the opening frame. Morrissey fired a shot from the top of the left circle that was redirected in front by Jaffray and past Thiessen for a 2-0 advantage.

Early in the second, the IceCaps got a quick goal to make it 3-0. After a heroic effort by Jordan Hill to block a shot, St. John's moved up-ice on a two-on-one rush. Samson kept and fired a wrister over Thiessen's glove for his second in as many games.

Minutes later, O'Dell gave the IceCaps a 4-0 lead. O'Dell banged in a rebound after a scramble in front of the Admirals net for his third of the playoffs.

The Admirals got on the board with 11:24 to go in the second. Andre Petersson walked in on the right side and wristed a shot over the blocker of Hutchinson to make it a 4-1 game.

The IceCaps capped off the scoring late in the third on O'Dell's second of the contest. O'Dell made a great second effort to dive and swat a loose puck past Thiessen from the side of the net, which made it 5-1.
