The Portland Winterhawks fell 3-2 to the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday at the Moda Center in Game 5 of the WHL Final in front of a sold out crowd of 10,947 as Edmonton took a 3-2 series lead.

Game 6 will be Sunday in Edmonton at 3 p.m. Pacific time.

The Hawks opened the scoring at the 15:28 mark of the first when Paul Bittner scored for a 1-0 Hawks lead. Edmonton got one back before the end of the period when Edgars Kulda scored a power play goal at the 18:27 mark to make it 1-1 going into the second.

Edmonton took a lead 2:11 into the second on a goal by Griffin Reinhart, then made it 3-1 when Henrik Samuelsson scored at the 7:39 mark. It remained that way heading into the third, despite Portland outshooting Edmonton 18-10 in the period.

The Hawks applied pressure throughout the third, and broke through late when a shot from Matt Dumba deflected past Jarry at the 18:15 mark to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Portland couldn't get the equalizer as the Oil Kings escaped with the win.
