Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins have signed four players to ten-day contracts, adding Collin Nord, Randy Fuller, Collin Serkowski and Sam Hellinger to the inaugural roster. The players will help the Pippins for the first few weeks of the season as some of the team's players finish up their collegiate baseball season or academic year.

Collin Nord becomes the third player out of Yakima Valley Community College (YVCC)to join the Pippins this summer. The left-handed pitcher out of Aberdeen, Wash. is in his first year with the Yaks.

Randy Fuller will contribute to the Pippins outfield this summer. The Clarkston, Wash. native is completing his second year at Wenatchee Valley Community College.

Colin Serkowski is listed as an infielder and a pitcher at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The sophomore out of Hanford High School in Richland Wash., is a .353 hitter in 17 at-bats this season in addition to an inning of work on the mound.

Sam Hellinger will add to an already-deep Pippins pitching staff this summer. The right hander is a freshman at the College of San Mateo. The former West Seattle High School star was selected in the 39th round of last year's draft by the Seattle Mariners.

All four of the 10-day players can expect to make an impact early on in the season for Head Coach Marcus McKimmy and his newly announced coaching staff.

"The importance of the 10-day contract and these players impact on our overall summer success is immeasurable," said McKimmy. "Without a full roster in Yakima until well into June, we feel very confident in these four players ability to bridge the gap while still putting a quality product on the field during those early conference games. Finishing the academic year is very important for our players' futures and we take it very seriously. The signing of Collin Nord, Sam Hellinger, and Collin Serkowski on the mound gives us a lot more options on opening day, and by signing an impact bat in Randy Fuller I am more than pleased with our situation come June 6th."

The Yakima Valley Pippins Inaugural Season will commence at Yakima County Stadium on June 6 th, 2014 at 7:05 P.M. against the Wenatchee AppleSox.
