Chiefs Trade Wedman, Acquire 4th-Round Pick

Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs have announced the trade of defenseman Cole Wedman to the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for the Warriors' 4th Round selection in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

"The WHL overage restriction number was the motivation for this trade," said Chiefs' General Manager Tim Speltz. "With Reid Gow being our captain, and with the strength of our young defensemen, we felt the trade was a necessary step for us as well as for Cole.

"Moose Jaw wanted Cole and we felt it was important for Cole to have the comfort of that stability for next season. Cole was a very good player and person for the Chiefs organization. We wish him all the best in Moose Jaw."

Wedman, who will be a 20-year-old next season, played 181 games in three seasons with the Chiefs, scoring 8 goals and 29 points, while also recording 127 penalty minutes. In 25 playoff games played, Wedman recorded 2 assists and 20 PIM.

Wedman was Spokane's 6th Round (126th Overall) selection in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

With the trade, the Chiefs now have five 1994-born players on their roster. League rules allow a maximum three overage (20-year-old) players per club after an October 16 deadline.

2014-15 Season Ticket Packages are on sale now. Visit the Chiefs' Ticket Office in-person, call a Chiefs Account Executive at (509) 535-PUCK, or visit www.spokanechiefs.com for more information.
