BENSENVILLE, Ill. - Chicago Steel forward Robby Jackson has been named the United States Hockey League Rookie of the Year. Jackson, who is a 1997 birth year scored 28 goals and added 14 assists in 60 games in 2013-14.

"Obviously as an organization we are extremely proud of Robby Jackson and the work he put in over the year," Steel head coach Scott McConnell said. "To be named USHL Rookie of the Year is something that shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt, it's a huge compliment and he is an extraordinary young man."

The Alameda, Calif. native set the record for most goals in the USHL Tier 1 era for a 16-year-old. His 28th goal of the season exceeded Taylor Cammarata's record of 27 goals when he competed for the Waterloo Black Hawks during the 2011-12 season. Cammarata was a third-round draft pick of the New York Islanders in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

"Robby really showed that it doesn't matter what your age is in the league, but if you put in the time and effort and play the game the right way, you will be able to produce at this level," McConnell said. "It was really exciting to see a 16-year-old be able to that and it was no small feat whatsoever. "

Jackson becomes the second member of the Steel organization to win USHL Rookie of the Year honors. Danny Richmond earned the admiration after the 2001-02 campaign when he put up 53 points (8g, 45a) as a defenseman.
