Hitmen Prepare for 2014 WHL Bantam Draft

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club will select 41st overall when the Western Hockey League holds its annual Bantam Draft today, Thursday, May 1, at the Deerfoot Inn in Calgary. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the draft can be viewed online via live webcast at www.whl.ca.

The WHL Bantam Draft is the first opportunity for WHL teams to replenish their systems with graduating bantam-aged players. The order of selection for the first round of the draft is determined through a weighted lottery consisting of the six non-playoff teams. The draft order is based on the inverse overall standings from the regular season.

Players eligible for the draft will be 1999-born players who reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Former Hitmen bantam draft picks include: Beck Malenstyn (2013), Jake Virtanen (2011), Greg Chase (2010), Cody Sylvester (2007), Martin Jones (2005) and Ryan Getzlaf (2000).
