Vancouver Volcanoes News Release

Vancouver, WA - Volcanoes are ready to protect home court as they face two southern rivals this weekend the Salem Sabres and Portland Chinooks.

With a big win 127-115 to open the season over the Slam, who the Volcanoes lost to in the 2013 IBL Championship game, it looks like the 2014 run for the ring has begun. 2012 IBL MVP 6'2" G Andre Murray put up a whopping 37 points with 8 assists getting his teammates involved, while reigning MVP 6'6" F Chehales Tapscott, Mr. Double Double himself posted 35 points and 19 rebounds.

"Andre was a standout this weekend putting up 37 points and we expect the same versus the Sabres and big production from him when we host Portland on Sunday, that will be a big game for us and the fans, always is," Assistant Coach and General Manager Bryan Hunter shared. "We have lost our MVP in Tapscott, but we have a full roster ready to pick up where he left off, 6'6" F Adam Herman, NAIA All American from Concordia should be with us this weekend, we know our competition will be ready to take us on and we have to protect home court," Hunter added.

Although the Volcanoes have officially lost Tapscott to the land down under, the team enjoyed one last game with him as he is not expected to return this IBL season becoming a part of the Rockhampton Rockets, in the QBL within the State League of Australia. Murray will be on the court all season, his fifth with the team and believes they have what it takes to protect home court.

"Obviously it is a huge loss, Chey has had a double double every game I played with him, it is hard to replace, and multiple guys will step up to take on that collective challenge, he will be missed I wish him success out there in Australia, he will do well I am sure," the 2012 MVP and 2013 All Star Murray said about his teammate Tapscott. "It is a goal every year to protect home court, just like any team, you feel like you need to win every game at home because on the road you cannot control the environment you go into. The Sabres and Chinooks will both be gunning for us and I am looking forward to the challenge this weekend."

Friday night tip-off is 7pm featuring the Hough Glee Kids Choir singing the National Anthem, with Cub Scout Pack 320 with our flag presentation, and don't miss our own Vancouver Volcanoes Dancers at both the Friday, and Sunday game which tips off at 5pm. General Admission at the door at Clark College Adults $7, Students under 18 and Seniors over 65 $3, Children Age 7 & under FREE!
