Falcons Rebound To Win Game 3, Take 2-1

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons defeated the Providence Bruins by the final score of 3-2 Saturday night at the MassMutual Center, taking a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five, Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series.
Mike McKenna made 42 saves on 44 shots in the victory, improving to 2-1 during the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs. The 42 saves are the second most in a single postseason performance in franchise history, one short of the record set by Manny Legace May 18, 1997 against the Hershey Bears. In three starts this postseason, McKenna has posted a 1.93 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage, turning away 111 of 117 shots so far.
Springfield forward Dana Tyrell extended the Falcons' lead to 3-1 with 2:35 remaining in the third period, scoring an unassisted, shorthanded goal - the first tally of his postseason career. Tyrell's score would serve as the eventual game-winner, as Providence forward Matt Lindblad scored his second goal of the game at 18:19 of the third period to cut the Springfield lead to one.
Lindblad gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 10:37 of the second period with his first professional postseason goal.
The Falcons evened the score at 1-1 at the 15:23 mark of the second period when Carter Camper notched a power-play tally, the team's first in three games this series. Springfield went 1-for-2 on the power play Saturday and is now 1-for-8 in the series. For Camper, the goal was his first of the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs but ninth of his postseason career. The Rocky River, Ohio native notched eight tallies in 12 playoff games as a member of the Bruins a season ago.
In his first appearance of the postseason, Jake Hansen found the back of the net, beating Providence netminder Niklas Svedberg on a breakaway to give Springfield a 2-1 lead at 2:32 of the third period. For Hansen, who appeared in three playoff games with the Falcons in 2013 but did not register a point, the goal was his first career postseason point.
Svedberg stopped 22 of 25 shots in net for the Bruins, falling to 1-2 this postseason.
With the victory, the Falcons took a 2-1 series lead and are now just one win from eliminating the Bruins and advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Game 4 of the series is set for Tuesday, April 29 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
If necessary, Game 5 would be played Saturday, May 3 at the MassMutual Center at 7:00 p.m.
