Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (8-11) finished a four-game sweep of the Lake County Captains (5-15) with a 10-2 rout on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Lansing totaled 11 hits to drive in a season-best 10 runs, with eight different Lugnuts scoring runs.
For the third consecutive start, Kendall Graveman (Win, 2-0) tied a career high with seven strikeouts. In his six innings, the former Mississippi State Bulldog lasted six innings and allowed one run on three hits and one walk. His season ERA was raised to 0.68.
The Lugnuts jumped on starting pitcher Mitch Brown (Loss, 0-3) in the first inning when third baseman Mitch Nay drove a two-run single to right field, extending his current on-base streak to sixteen games.
The Captains would answer with a run in the top of the third, but Lansing kept it rolling in the bottom half. Jason Leblebijian came in to score on a wild pitch and Justin Atkinson brought in Santiago Nessy with a double to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Lansing continued to pile on runs, stretching the lead to 10-1 through seven innings and rolling to its easiest win of the year.
Phil Kish made his season debut with two innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and three strikeouts. Griffin Murphy struck out the side in order in the ninth to finish the game.
Leblebijian finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Nay and Nessy also finished the game with two runs driven in.
The Lugnuts will begin a three-game set with the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Tom Robson (0-1, 11.65) will start for Lansing, with Chris Kirsch (0-3, 8.68) pitching for the Hot Rods.
