New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats were defeated by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats by the score of 5-3 Thursday morning at New Britain Stadium.

Rock Cats starter LHP Taylor Rogers pitched all the way to the seventh inning - his longest outing of 2014 and left with the score tied 3-3.

New Britain jumped out to an early lead against Fisher Cats starter RHP Deck McGuire, picking up two runs in the bottom of the first. 3B Nate Hanson reached home on a wind-aided double from DH Kennys Vargas - the swirling pattern had the LF Brian Van Kirk going in a few different directions before falling to the ground. Vargas scored during the following at-bat - an RBI single through the hole at shortstop by LF Daniel Ortiz.

New Hampshire answered quickly with two runs in the top of the second. CF Jonathan Jones cracked a base hit out to left field to drive home SS Andy Burns and RF Michael Crouse, who both reached on back-to-back singles to start the frame.

The Rock Cats took over in the bottom of the fourth when CF Corey Wimberly bounced a ball over to the shortstop with bases loaded, allowing 1B Reynaldo Rodriguez to cross the plate and reclaim the lead.

Not to be held down for long, the visitors tied up the contest in the fifth with a two out rally on three straight base hits, the last of which scored DH Brad Glenn, who started the streak with a single out to center field.

New Hampshire pulled ahead in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs on two hits, also taking advantage of two walks and a throwing error during a pickoff attempt by New Britain reliever RHP Adrian Salcedo. C Jack Murphy's double scored Crouse for his second run of the day and Murphy himself crossed the plate on a single from 2B Jon Berti.

New Britain starter LHP Taylor Rogers put together his longest outing as a Rock Cat - scattering nine hits over six innings, good for three runs, all earned, while walking three and striking out six. Salcedo was tagged with the loss (0-3) for his efforts - going 1 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, two earned on one hit while walking one and striking out one.

RHP Deck McGuire picked up his third win of the season (3-1), going 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, none earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out eight. Reliever RHP Gregory Infante picked up his five save in as many opportunities, including four straight conversions against the Cats dating back to April 14th.

New Britain goes on the road for a seven-game, two city trip starting Friday night against Richmond. The Rock Cats will throw LHP Sean Gilmartin against LHP Aldaberto Mejia. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
