MLB's Pitch, Hit and Run Set for May 10th

YAKIMA, Wash.-The Yakima Valley Pippins, Sunfair Chevrolet and the Greater Yakima Sports Commission have partnered together to bring Major League Baseball's (MLB) Pitch, Hit and Run (PHR) program to the Yakima Valley. The event is open to all 7-14 year olds and will be held on May 10th at Yakima County Stadium from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"Youth baseball and softball is woven into fabric of the Yakima Valley," Pippins general manager Danny Tetzlaff said. "Pitch, Hit, and Run is a great program that permits youth to participate and show their skills."

Pitch, Hit & Run(tm) is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball(r). Boys and girls are split into four age brackets: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, and 13, /14. Age determination is made your son/daughter's age on July 17th of this year. Admission is free.

"We are excited to be partnering with the Yakima Valley Pippins to help bring the Pitch, Hit and Run competition to the Yakima Valley," SunFair Chevrolet general manager Jason Midkiff said. "Youth baseball is an important part of the Chevy brand story - we may discover the games next great talent here on the fields of our community through this national competition."

The Pippins are hosting the local competition. The individual Pitching, Hitting and Running Champions, along with the All-Around Champion in each age and gender group at the Local Competition will be awarded and advance to the Sectional Level of the Competition.

Finalists will participate in an array of festivities upon arrival, including a PHR Welcome Reception, MLB Brunch and All- Star FanFest. Finalists will compete on-field prior to shagging fly balls during the Home Run Derby(r) and attending at the 2014 MLB(tm) All-Star Game(r).

"Bringing the community together for events of this nature is a goal of ours," Tetzlaff said. "We want to become a social hub for the Yakima Valley to gather and enjoy community-centered baseball." The Yakima Valley Pippins Inaugural Season will commence at Yakima County Stadium on June 6th, 2014 at 7:05 P.M. against the Wenatchee AppleSox. Tickets are now on sale for the 2014 season, including full-season and partial-season packages, as well as select team merchandise. Single game tickets will go on sale May 1st.
