Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (April 23, 2014) - The Kannapolis Intimidators scored two runs in the eighth inning for a come-from-behind win, 2-1, over the West Virginia Power on Wednesday, completing a 3-game sweep at Appalachian Power Park. The win puts Kannapolis (9-9) back at .500 on the season.

Trailing 1-0 with one out in the eighth, Jacob Morris singled to score Cleuluis Rondon from second base to tie the game. After Trey Michalczewski singled, Jeremy Dowdy and Tyler Williams drew walks, pushing the go-ahead run across the plate for a 2-1 advantage.

Jordan Guerrero (1-0) made his Class A debut, working 2.0 scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth for the win. Jose Bautista spun a scoreless, hitless ninth for the save (1).

The eighth-inning rally helped Intimidators starter Tyler Danish off the hook for what would have been a hard-luck loss. Danish, the White Sox second round pick in the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft, matched his career-high with 6.0 innings of work, allowing a run on four hits.

West Virginia (7-11) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when JaCoby Jones scored on a groundout by Edwin Espinal.

Felipe Gonzalez (0-2) took the relief loss, allowing two runs on five hits in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Tonight's win comes three years to the day after the Intimidators last swept the Power. Kannapolis took five straight gamest over West Virginia April 19-23, 2011, at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.

The Intimidators head to Rome, Ga., for a 4-game series against the Braves. RHP Robinson Leyer is slated to start the series opener at State Mutual Stadium. The Intimidators return home on Tuesday, April 29, to open a 9-games-in-7-days home stand against the Power and Hickory Crawdads.
