Nailers Edge Stingrays 1-0 in Game 3

April 23, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) - South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Wheeling, W.V. - Goaltender Mike Condon stopped all 38 South Carolina Stingrays (0-3) shots to give the Wheeling Nailers (3-0) a 1-0 victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at WesBanco Arena Wednesday night. The Stingrays trail the best-of-seven series 3-0.

The Stingrays peppered Condon with 12 shots in the opening period and 14 in the second, but could not grab the opening tally. Not to be outdone, Stingrays netminder Allen York (L, 25 saves on 26 shots) provided eight saves on the first period and 12 in the second, including several highlight-reel stops, before forward Christiaan Minella poked in a loose puck with nine seconds remaining in the stanza to give the Nailers the lead heading into the intermission.

The Stingrays carried the pressure in the third period, adding 12 more shots, but Condon sealed the victory with his second shutout of the playoffs. Both teams finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play.

Game 4 between the two teams is Friday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. at WesBanco Arena and Game 5 (if necessary) will take place on Saturday, April 26 at 7:0 p.m., also in Wheeling.
