Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Pitching ruled the day for the Greenville Drive (10-7) on Wednesday afternoon, as they defeated the Asheville Tourists (9-10) 6-0 and clinched a victory of the three-game series.

Jamie Callahan (1-2) was outstanding in his first start in a week, as he hurled five scoreless frames while allowing four hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Jacob Dahlstrand was just as good in relief, closing out the game with four one-hit innings to collect his first save.

The Drive struck early against Asheville starter Zach Jemiola (1-2), scoring a run in the first and two runs in the second. Jimmy Rider led off the first with a double to right-center and later scored on a wild pitch. In the second, three doubles plated both Drive runs. Carlos Asuaje doubled to begin the frame and scored on a double by Jake Romanski. Wendell Rijo then laced a double of his own to bring home Romanski.

Many of those same hitters were prominently involved in the Drive's two-run sixth inning as well. Asuaje hit a one-out triple and scored when Romanski lined a single to center. Later in the inning, Bo Greenwell smacked a double to the wall in left-center to plate the fifth run of the evening.

Asuaje continued his offensive hot streak with an RBI single in the seventh to bring the Drive lead to the eventual final score. He went 3-4 and fell a home run shy of the cycle. Romanski added two hits and two RBI, and Rider and Rijo chipped in with two hits apiece. Pat Valaika had two hits for Asheville.

The Drive will begin a four-game series with the Lexington Legends on Thursday night at 7:05. RH Teddy Stankiewicz (2-1, 3.00) will start for the Drive, and the Legends will counter with RH Luke Farrell (0-1, 3.09).
