Pensacola Blue Wahoos Homestand Highlights - April 24-28

April 23, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

Three to Watch on the Mississippi Braves (Atlanta Braves):

#34 J.R. Graham, RHP

J.R. Graham is the third ranked prospect in the Braves system according to Baseball America. Back in 2011, he had an Appalachian League best 1.72 ERA. He seemingly was on a fast track to the majors before he injured his shoulder last season. Graham features a mid-90s fastball that is conducive to inducing groundballs. If not for his injury last season, Graham would probably be the number one prospect in the system.

#8 Jason Hursh, RHP

Jason Hursh checks in right behind J.R. Graham as the fourth best prospect in the Braves organization. The former first round pick throws a mid-90s fastball with a lot of late life and tail. Due to the diving action of his fastball, he tends to create a lot of ground ball outs. Before this season, he had pitched just nine starts with Low-A Rome. While with Rome, he had a 2-to-1 groundout to air out ratio.

#39 Kyle Kubitza, 3B

Kyle Kubitza improved his consistency last season with High-A Lynchburg and earned himself a trip to the prestigious Arizona Fall League. Kubitza showed an incredible eye at the plate, checking in with a system-best .380 on-base percentage. Kubitza's power continues to increase; last season he hit a season-best 12 home runs with 57 RBI.

Minor to rehab with M-Braves Friday at Pensacola

Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Mike Minor is scheduled to make his final rehab start with the Mississippi Braves Friday at Pensacola. Minor began the 2014 season on Atlanta's 15-day disabled list with left shoulder tendonitis.

What's Cookin': This homestand's food special, inspired by the Mississippi Braves, is the HotLanta Cheese Fries. With hot nacho cheese and sliced jalapenos, these spicy spuds are served in a souvenir helmet. Concessions will also feature the Bubba Dub Grilled Cheese - a double decker grilled cheese sandwich with crispy hash browns inside. This meal of champions is served with fries on a souvenir Blue Wahoos frisbee.
