TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (0-3-0) will fight for their lives tonight against the Stockton Thunder (3-0-0) who have taken a commanding 3-0 lead in the 2014 Kelly Cup Western Conference Quarterfinals. This is a must win game for Ontario who has been outscored 13-6 and outshot 90-89. In the first two games the Reign had a tough time getting any shots on goal, but in their most recent meeting, on Tuesday night, they had 43 shots almost doubling their series total.
UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY:
In Reign history, the team has never trailed a playoff series by more than two games, let alone fighting back from a three game deficit. The Reign have been able to rally back throughout the regular season and never went more than three games in a row without a win. The longest regular season losing streak was three games back in February from Feb. 5 - 8, falling to the Thunder and the Condors. The team then went on to win their next three games.
SILENCING THE THUNDER:
Stockton has had three major weapons against Ontario in forward Jeremy Langlois and Joey Martin who have combined for 17 points (8g, 9a) in just three games. Both Langlois and Martin have earned Hat Tricks in games two and three, respectively. Thunder goaltender Brian Foster has been strong too allowing just six goals in three games for a 2.00 goals-against average and .933 save percentage.
SOMETHING ABOUT THOSE SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Thunder has managed to beat the Reign's penalty kill unit at least once in every game of the series for a total of four power-play goals against Ontario. The Reign has converted one of their nine power-play chances in Game 2. Last night the Reign saw their first short-handed goal against of the 2014 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
