Iowa Barnstormers News Release

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (3-2) travel to the home of the Philadelphia Soul (2-3) for their Week 7 matchup on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm CDT at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. The first ESPN2 broadcast of the 2014 season will also be available on WHO 1040 AM.

After two consecutive home games, the Iowa Barnstormers head out to take on the Philadelphia Soul. The Barnstormers are now 2-0 on their home turf. Last week, Iowa hosted the LA KISS in their first-ever meeting during the 2014 HYDRIVE AFL Hall of Fame. Iowa's defense took control of the game, keeping the KISS to 12 total points for the night. DL Mike Lewis recorded 3.5 sacks while DB Jason Simpson tallied a total of eight tackles. Interceptions played an important role, as Iowa's defense forced five on KISS QB J.J. Raterink.

Iowa's touchdown receivers included Marco Thomas and Darius Reynolds while QB Carson Coffman brought in one of his own. Coffman completed three touchdowns in the air and 264 passing yards. The Barnstormers led the entire game, although LA attempted a second-half rally. Barnstormers seal the KISS, 31-12.

In Week 6 the Philadelphia Soul won their first home opener since 2011 against the Jacksonville Sharks, 54-41. Soul QB Dan Raudabaugh finished the night by completing 15-of-25 passes for 197 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Raudabaugh was able to move the ball around, connecting with receivers Anthony Jones, Ryan McDaniel, and Robert Redd. Derrick Ross led the rushing game with 58 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Defensively, Rayshaun Kizer earned 10.5 total tackles, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Philadelphia has gone undefeated in matchups against Iowa, but is currently trailing on 2014 season wins. In order to continue their winning streak, the Barnstormers need to keep close watch on a couple of key players. If they play like they did last weekend, Iowa's defense won't have much trouble with Raudabaugh, but will need to keep tabs on the Soul's leading rusher, Derrick Ross. On offense, the Barnstormers will need to keep quarterback protection high priority with Soul sack leader Teddy Jennings on the other side of the line. Fine tuning their ability to take care of the ball and execute plays will continue to be important aspects.

The Iowa Barnstormers return home on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Season tickets remain on sale, while individual game tickets can be purchased for any regular season game at the Wells Fargo Arena Box office or by calling the Barnstormers at 515-633-2255.
