(HICKORY, N.C.) Elier Hernandez' three run homer in the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and the Lexington Legends went on to a 6-2 win over the Hickory Crawdads Wednesday.

The Crawdads took the early lead with two runs in the first inning. Travis Demeritte drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by Nick Vickerson. Ronald Guzman followed with an infield hit, as Demeritte went to third, from where he later scored on a wild pitch. Nomar Mazara was called out on strikes, but Lewis Brinson blooped a single to right field, scoring Guzman with the second run.

The 2-0 margin held up until the top of the sixth. With one out, Alfredo Escalera reached first on an error by Vickerson at third base. Humberto Arteaga followed with a single, moving Escalera to second. After Michael Antonio grounded into a force play at second base, Fred Ford walked, loading the bases. Hernandez' infield single brought Escalera home to cut the lead to 2-1.

Escalera led off the eighth with a double. Arteaga bunted to the third base side, and pitcher Ricardo Rodriguez threw past first for an error, allowing Escalera to score the tying run as Arteaga went to second. Antonio was hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second. Ford popped out on a sacrifice attempt, but Hernandez followed with a blast over the wall in right field, his first home run of the season.

The Legends added their final run in the ninth on a triple by Dominique Taylor and an infield out by Escalera.

Luis Santos (2-0) worked the first seven innings and got the win. After Brinson's hit in the first inning, he retired 16 consecutive batters. Jose

Rodriguez pitched the last two innings and earned his second save.

Ricardo Rodiguez (1-1)was the losing pitcher.

The Legends play in Greenville Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
