Seattle Reign FC News Release

SEATTLE (April 23, 2014) - Seattle Reign FC will play their second match of the 2014 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season at the Moda Health Pitch at Memorial Stadium against the Washington Spirit today. The game, which is slated to kick-off at 7 p.m. PT will be available via a live, high-definition webstream at YouTube.com/NWSL.

Reign FC opened their NWSL season with a 3-0 shut out against the Boston Breakers on Sunday, April 13 - securing Seattle's first clean sheet in club history.

After a scoreless first half, Reign FC scored two goals in the first nine minutes of play during the second half of the match. In the 49th minute, a foul in the box awarded Seattle a penalty kick, which Scottish international Kim Little was able to convert to open the scoring. Little then claimed a second goal in the 54th minute off a Jess Fishlock assist. U.S. Women's National Team forward Megan Rapinoe finished off the game by scoring in the 88th minute.

With a ten day break between matches, Seattle has spent the majority of that time on the training pitch; taking full advantage of the rare break to perfect the things that worked well against Boston, and fix the things that didn't.

"It's a really important time for us," said head coach and general manager Laura Harvey, "important to pin down exactly what we want to be and who we want to look like."

Reign FC will face a much-improved Spirit side who are coming off a 3-1 win over Kansas City on Sunday. The Spirit roster features some outstanding talent, including Crystal Dunn, the 1st pick of the 2014 college draft, USWNT defender Ali Krieger as well as former UW standout, forward Veronica Perez.

Today marks the first of three meetings between the two squads for the 2014 season. Last season, the Spirit led the series against Reign FC 2-1

Reign FC conclude their three-game home stand to open the regular season when they square off against the Houston Dash on Sunday, April 27 at 4 p.m. (PT) at the Moda Health Pitch at Memorial Stadium.
