Eagles Overpower Steelheads 4-1 in Game 3
April 22, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) - Colorado Eagles News Release
BOISE, Idh. - The Colorado Eagles (2-1) came back from an early 1-0 deficit heading into the second period to dominate the Idaho Steelheads (1-2), 4-1, at the Budweiser Events Center in Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. The Eagles victory gave them the 2-1 advantage in the series.
The Steelheads struck first with a Brett Robinson goal from between the hashes to beat Eagles netminder Dustin Butler, top shelf, with 5:05 left in the first period. Idaho goalie Josh Robinson turned away all 11 of Colorado's shots to blank the Eagles in the first frame.
Eagles forward Kyle Ostrow bested Robinson first, netting a goal from the left circle to tie the game at 1-1, at the 7:47 mark in the second period. With just over a minute left in the period Eagles forward Kyle Kraemer gave the Eagles their first lead of the contest, 2-1, with a goal from the low slot.
Forward Luke Fulghum buried a shot on the power play from the slot to put the Eagles up 3-1 just over two minutes into the third period. With 35 seconds left in the third, Brock Nixon put away the Steelheads with an empty net goal to ice the game, 4-1, in Colorado's favor.
"I think it was important, mentally, for us to get a win in this building, but it is the first team to four, not the first team to two so we still have a long way to go," commented head coach Chris Stewart.
After scoring the first Eagles goal of the game, Ostrow expressed, "Our fans are great, they are the best fans in the league, so it gives us that much more of a home-ice advantage. We expect them to be just as loud on Thursday. You couldn't even hear yourself think out there tonight and I think it helped us more than them."
