Power Rally Falls Short

Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV- April 22, 2014) - The West Virginia Power fell on Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 8-6. The Power cut the lead to one with a four-run sixth inning, but that would be as close as West Virginia got as Kannapolis posted double-digit hits for the second straight night.
The Intimidators jumped on the board right away when Jacob Morris blasted a two-run home run to left field in the first inning. Kannapolis added to their lead with one in the fifth and then two in the sixth behind an RBI double from Omar Narvaez.
West Virginia, however, would respond in a big way in the bottom half of the sixth. Wyatt Mathisen got it started with an RBI infield single followed by an Edwin Espinal two-RBI double. A wild pitch plated Mathisen and the Power had the Intimidators lead down to one.
Kannapolis came right back with three runs in the seventh when Power relief pitcher Jerry Mulderig walked in a pair of Intimidators. West Virginia chopped the lead back down to two in the bottom half of the inning on a Wyatt Mathisen RBI single, but that would be all the scoring the Power could muster.
Power start Shane Carle (0-1) was charged with the loss despite throwing five innings, giving up two earned runs with seven strikeouts, a professional career-high. Intimidators starter James Dykstra (2-2) earned the win while Jose Brito (1) picked up the save. Edwin Espinal continued a five-game hit streak with a 2-for-4 performance including two RBIs and a double.
West Virginia hosts the Kannapolis Intimidators on Wednesday, April 23, at Appalachian Power Park. Buddy Borden will take the hill for the Power against the Intimidators Tyler Danish. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-2287 or visit www.wvpower.com.
